This is The Place. Stories of travel, planets, and place. Through my own personal musing of travel and astrology, I use my experiences and those of others to share the wisdom of the planets to find greater communion on this earth.
Being home this week has me in a deep space of reflection on how and why I started this journey through astrogeography. Growing up on the East Coast for 25 years things here felt….. hard. A deep soul initiation, shadows, death, you name it.
Unfortunately, I started studying this art after leaving and moving out west.
Something I still think about, and am facing in the current moment is, how do we navigate challenging aspects in our chart? Specifically, in our astrogreography charts.
This trip I’ll be spending 2 weeks dancing with Pluto. An energy I am extremely familiar with, especially the tension of this energy. What I thought was my final rodeo of plutonian energy after my dad passed away was only a hope and dream because I met my husband who happens to also be from the same location.
Oh, the ways we can run but we can’t hide.
Pluto historically representing soul growth. There is a fantastic Astrology podcast all about Pluto here I’d highly recommend to get familiar with the energetics of this planet.
Whether you are deep in the trenches of Pluto, or perhaps experiencing some soul stretching there is something here that can support you on your planetary journey.
Defining Challenging Aspects
The thing about astrology and our soul journey is one energy may feel easeful, while another may feel challenging - depending on where our growth edges are, our walls, our shadows, etc. Another reason it’s important to look at the totality of someone’s chart rather than piecing it together i.e (Sun, moon rising)
Notable challenging energies in Astrology can be
the malefic planets: Saturn and Mars
while benefic planets include: Venus and Jupiter
the outer planets don’t have classification as malefic or benefic - I would say they lean more towards the edge of challenging because they encompass the dimensions of the soul.
Sun / Moon can also present conflict depending on their natal chart placement.
Each planet holds both vibrational fields of true and false - accepting and challenging energetics.
While the real work is forgetting the idea of positive and negative, good and bad, and instead merge these energetics into oneness.
Maintaining Planetary Mastery
The energetics of where you were born gives good clues in what you are here to master in this lifetime.
The moment you came into this earth there was an energetic exchange between you, the stars, and the body of earth. All bodies and celestial influence were present to shape you into your unique path of mastery and learnings here on planet earth.
The “line” you’re living on gives great influence into what you are here to master on this timeline in this location.
You would not be navigating that planetary energy if you weren’t meant to be in constant cosmic communication and initiation with that planet at this particular moment in time.
Some Tips and Tools for Navigation
If where you are feels particularly challenging here are some ways I love to bring ease to my experience without spiritually bypassing what’s happening in front of you.
Step 1. Locate positive aspects in your astrogeography chart. Maybe you’ve traveled there before and it holds fond memories or perhaps it’s on your bucket list. It could also just be a culture or your ancestral lineage that you feel connected to.
Be intuitive with where comes forward.
Example: For me - I have really positive aspects in Japan, somewhere I long to be.
Step 2. After identifying where you have positive aspects use them to your advantage through a sensory experience.
See - Place photos of this location around your house, you desktop background, in your car, on your mirror somewhere that will remind you constantly of energy that feels supportive. Get a coffee table book and flip through it often. Follow people on instagram and social media that live in this location. Etc.
Hear - Find a band or style of music that is from this location. For example if Jamaica is supportive for you listen to Bob Marley, if it’s Iceland listen to more Björk, etc.
If it’s a style of music think Newar music from Nepal or something in the native language.
Bonus points is to listen to podcasts about this location.
Taste - This one seems obvious, but cook / eat out at restaurants that serve this cuisine. If it’s India find a new Indian spot to go to or order from, speak to the people there and get to know this culture more deeply. You’d be surprised how uplifting this is.
Cook meals and recipes that originate in this location - for me I love cooking Italian because of my ancestry and astrogeography.
Smell - This goes hand in hand with cooking but invoke scent in your experience. Buy a candle that was made there, a scent that reminds you of southern France, a spray or perfume that has notes of the location that is favorable will shift your mood quick!
Touch - Fabric, textiles, and clothes are a great way to tap into positive astrogeography. For my example of Japan being supportive I love having textiles from Japan or Japanese linen in my closet and around my home.
I also love touching objects that come from these places! Something that says Japan or whatever country is supportive to you.
Step 3: Lastly, I love making specific mood boards of places that feel supportive for me. Here is a glimpse into mine for Japan.
Do these practices daily and they are small steps that make you feel more energetically supported in the little moments of life’s happenings.

Yesss to all of this! It’s so fun to play with the energy of other planets and have them support you when things feel a little more challenging
